How is power Obtained?
Hello my name is Morgan Frieling. My group and I believe that power is obtained by being influential and respected. The definition of power is the capacity or ability to direct or influence the behavior of others or the course of events. There are different beliefs in religions and One example is how christians know that God has power and can impact events or behaviors in many ways. Christians look up to God because he is influential and respected. We believe that power has to be earned, no one is born with power, they have to work hard and set a good example for other people and earn respect.
Another reason that we believe power is obtained by being respected is when The Catholic Church gained power, they told everyone if you pay money to the Church , they would relieve you of all your sins and people believed that. The Church was influential from them telling everyone about money and the church was respected because the people thought it would actually work and trusted in what the church was saying. Once the people found out that they were disrespected the church began to lose power. R.G Risch once said “Respect is a two-way street, if you want to get it, you’ve got to give it.”
Many leaders want the respect of others but they have to give the respect in return. If you think about it, Hitler was another influential person in history at some point. He convinced a lot of people that he would rebuild Germany and open up jobs. People followed him and once he gained that power of being the leader of Germany, He started WWII. after WWII Hitler lost power because no one respected him and he was not influential.
Most of the times when dictators get the respect of the citizen and are able to influence them, they lose power by lying and losing the citizens resect. Power can also come in many other ways beside in people. Power can be found in books, movies or evan speeches. If a book has influential words or messages and contains respected stories, it can impact a person's life in a powerful way. Movies with respected actors and a influential story line can create power. In the end, being respectful and influential comes with great power and leadership. Power can be obtain.
